DISABLED ACCESS STATEMENT
Introduction
We aim to provide an accessible site to all our guests and to have staff and equipment to help provide any assistance that is needed.
Pre-Arrival
- We have a public bus stop about 50 yards from our back door.
- There is a train station close to the town centre which is about ½ mile from us.
- There is a taxi rank at the station and taxis will take guests to the Centre (approx £3). Abergavenny Taxis can be pre-booked on 01873 854140
- We can be contacted by email: enquiries@mulberrycentre.com, by telephone on 01873 855959 or by facsimile on 01873 855443. Out of hours emergency number is 07699 662867
Arrival and Car Parking facilities
- There is a free car park area to the rear of the Centre with 30 parking spaces and 2 spaces directly next to the garden entrance and pathway.
- The rear car park has a tarmac surface. Disabled car-parking spaces can be allocated in advance by request.
- The pathway from the carpark to the entrance door is level for approximately 15 yards with a very slight incline to the remaining pathway for approximately 20 yards.
- The pathway is part block paving and part gravel over a ground-guard membrane
- There is a small lip between the adjoining paths of approximately half an inch in height.
- The main door to Reception can be accessed via a wooden ramp with slight incline and wooden hand rails.
- We can assist guests with luggage if required.
- Our site is set close to the market town amenities. It has downhill access to a Tesco Metro, shops, cafés and pubs.
Main Entrance and Reception
- The entrance to the reception has a doorbell which needs to be pressed for attention.
- The door will be opened by a member of staff.
- The rear door to the reception has a small lip to go over.
- There is a sofa in reception so guests can rest.
- The access route to reception is lit with an energy saving sensor light, as are the pathways.
- The front (road-facing) of the building has 12 steps to the entrance and is not accessible by wheelchair users.
Public Areas - General (Internal)
- The site is made up of different surfaces. Staff can give assistance if needed.
- To use the disabled toilet facilities, guests will need to pass through the connected route from the Mulberry House reception area (in the Georgian part of the building) through the Sugarloaf Conference Room, Dining Room and Training Workshops.
- Each door along the route to the disabled toilet has signage with a blue background and white wheelchair symbol.
- The disabled toilet has an arm hoist. There is currently no emergency alarm in the toilet.
- The centre is equipped with a drip room and hand sinks close to the disabled toilet.
- There are other toilets available on site but these require the assent of stairs. In 2009 an additional disabled toilet will be installed at the Georgian end of the building (by main entrance).
- The doorways are wide enough for wheelchair access. However there are 8 doors to open.
- Staff or overnight wardens are on site and can give assistance if needed.
- Guide dogs are welcomed on site and in all rooms and areas.
- There is no disabled access to the first floor accommodation.
- Disabled access accommodation is available at a local conference centre (1/3 mile distant) and a local Ambus can be made available by prior arrangement to transport wheelchair users between sites. Details can be provided upon request.
